Stardust

Posted by Unknown

So in looking for a video the other night I wrote down my top three I wanted to rent. I absolutely hate walking around the video store so I always decide before I get there. Much to my disappointment everything that I wanted to rent was unavailable. (that's a Friday night for you) A manager approached me and I told him my situation and I asked if he knew of any good movies. I told him I wanted something good and not rated R. His eyes rolled to the side and he patted his chin and he went and got one for me.

"Stardust" I said. I've never heard of that.
He said, "it's pretty much got everything in it. You have comedy, drama, action, romance...all the classics to a great movie."
I looked at the box and dismissed it immediately. "Nope....It has a airborne boat and wizards. I'm not into fantasy."
"I guarantee you'll like he told me. I guarantee five free movies if you don't. "
This of course got my attention. "Are you sure I'll like it?" I asked again hesitantly.
"Five free movies that you will."

Since now this is turning into a story and It's obvious I don't do quotation marks...Here's the end. I rented it. I was so unexcited I didn't even watch it the first night. The second night my husband reminded me. We put in and during the first scene I was regretting it. However...Here is the But...I wasn't that bad. I maybe even liked it. It exceeding my expectations. It made you feel good. I'm impressed with the Manager at Blockbuster. He recommended something he knew I would like. It's not all that often that that happens.

I had never heard of it but it definitely has big names in it. Michelle Pfifer, Robert Deniro, Claire Danes, and a really lovable main character I'd never heard of. I'd recommend it as good entertainment. I was pleasantly surprised.

The sad news...I won't be getting those five free movies after all.

The Power of One

Posted by Unknown

So my freshman year in college I watched the Power of One. With my new found Independence and collegate ideals I had adopted it as my favorite movie. It inspired me and I played the soundtrack every Sunday for two years. When other people hadn't heard of this movie I told them to rush out and rent it. Recently, I had decided to re-watch the movie. After all, it has been more years than I would like to think. I went to BlockBuster and low and behold......they didn't have it. The kid with huge gages in his ears and obscene tongue ring looked at me like I was from mars. I politely thanks him but told him that his life could change it he watched the movie. The old collegate sarcasm has got the best of me.

I'll more than likely purchase the movie and add it to my small collection. It is very inspirational and makes your heart soar. I admit that until I watch it again, the movie isn't fresh in my mind. However you never lose a feeling you felt. Tonight is movie night. Maybe it's available at your blockbuster.

Looking for a good Movie

Posted by Unknown

In looking for a good movie last night I strolled upon the American Film Institutes list of Inspirational Movies (2006). I have to admit I haven't seem most of them including Casablanca. I decided that rather then renting a movie that inspires nothing that I'd slowly go through this list one at a time. Some are rather old and the rental companies don't even have them in stock. However I'm sure you can find them somewhere. Here are the first 10.

1. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
2. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
3. Schindler's List (1993)
4. Rocky (1976)
5. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
6. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
7 The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
8 Breaking Away (1979)
9 Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
10 Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Sundance Film Festival

Posted by Unknown

In honor or the week......

Some of what comes out of the sundance film festival is trash....Pure unadulterated garbage. Some is bologna.....Cheap, processed, and totally LAME. However, a select few can be so inspiring that I am thankful for independant film.

I recently rented the movie GOD GREW TIRED OF US. It is the winner of Sundance Jury Prize for 2006 along with the audience choice award. It is a documentary about the LOST BOYS of Sudan. I had never heard of the movie and it was shot in the dark of what it would be like but, I have to admit I was in no way disappointed.

It ended up being a great movie. I laughed, I cried, but most of all it touched my soul. I realized how blessed we are to live in this country. I realized how the struggles I have are so "western" in their nature and that God has given me every opportunity to achieve every dream. I realized how hard people work to actually help and show their gratitude for what they have. I learned that I need to be more proactive to help others, make change, if I'm ever going to make a difference in this world.

This is diffantely a five star rating in my book. Everybody and their mother should see it.

Have you seen any movies that are as inspiring as this? If so, let me know.
