This last weekend I went to this co-op boutique show here in my neighborhood.  A place where many small businesses (or large) show off and highlight there stuff.  There are so many talented people out there and I loved it all.  One of my favorite was a graphic designer who made prints, calendars, cards and even designs blog headers.  This baby announcement was one of my favorites and she had it as a large poster for decor.  Granted Zoom has grown out of the baby stage I'm sad to say but I could still have one made for his wall.  Check out  her other stuff at Green Lily Designs.  I'm lucky I grabbed her card!

I had bought this chair 10 years ago at a thrift store. At that time I painted it black and put a seat cusion on it. During my move this chair miraculously showed up again though I had left it for Goodwill. However I decided to do the chair makeover that is all the rage across the blogs. I have to admit that I love it and it is way easier than I ever expected.

So in unpacking all my junk I seem to have collected over the years, I found a plate that I've had in storage for years. Originally my plan was to have a few favorite to hang in my kitchen. My first thoughts were that is just so old school and outdated and then I found this picture that gave me inspiration. Though I only have two in my collection this won't work but I still loved the design detail and variance of the traditional plate hanging.

Why have cake when you can have a cupcake? That's how I feel about cupcakes. There was once an episode of Seinfeld that had a fictionary store that just sold muffin tops. A dream come true if that were a cupcake top. The top is just so dang good and being a frosting lover is just the added benefit.

While strolling through Costco I thumbed through this book and made the 9.99 purchase (in paperback). It has the cutest ideas for cupcakes and parties and is 100% original. I'm sure it takes some practice to perfect these techniques but once you do it will be a sure fire way to please a crowd. I already know the "birthday cake" that I'm going to make for my sons next birthday. It's definitely worth a peruse!

I have a chair that I found at a thrift store and repainted basic black. I've had it for years and it has done it's job (held me off the ground) for that entire time. It looked great when I painted it but I never redid the seat. I recently saw this in the November Issue of Sunset and said to myself....I could redo my chair again and actually make it cute again. It is super easy and any excuse to buy and use cool chic fabric is okay with me. You could even redo a whole dining set or just keep with a simple office chair. Why buy new :)

Recently at Disneyland I noticed that they had changed every last flower and plant in containers, on pathways, in hedges and garden areas just to match their theme of Halloween and harvest time. Despite the 95 degree heat, you did at some level really think the leaves were falling and that summer had come to an end. It's like placing a pumpkin at your doorstep. It makes you feel warm like there is hot chocolate waiting inside for you after you've jumped in a pile of leaves. An article in Sunset Magazine grabbed my attention and I love the seasonal display of flowers that they recommend. Black and Purple leaves, orange blooms and dried reeds all bring the feeling of the season. Whether it be a bouquet on your dining room table, a container full of reubekkia, or even dried corn stalks adorning your threshold, it's the simple things of the season that make me smile. Although I don't have the resources of Disney it still feels good to get out and do something before the long winter sets in. Don't forget to plant your bulbs in preparation of Spring. Another thing to brighten any ones day that you definitely have to plan in advance for.

A college friend once told me that there are two types of people in this world. The kind that prefer soap....and the other that prefer body wash. I'm not sure why this was a topic of conversation but I do know one thing about myself. I like soap but really like the smell of body wash. For this reason only I tend to use body wash because at some level I really think I'm going to be smelling like cinnamon buns (from Philosophy) all day long. Now that I think about it, this could be a contributing factor in my lack of weight loss and that I'm always hungry. Note the picture below. I saw this picture and thought everything looked so good.

.......the only thing is that it is all soap from birch bark soap! Can you believe it!! A masterpiece of soap. Can you please tell me why you wouldn't want to just bite it right in the shower. Now smelling and bathing with chocolate could revert me right back to the soap side of life.

I have a few good friends who are pregnant right now but I don't live near them. I saw this cute idea on Martha Stewart and secretly want someone to become pregnant just so I can through a shower.

My sister-in-law got her tubes tied so unless they adopt...she's out. My other sister in law has six kids and I don't think she's going for seven. And everybody else is in between. I'll guess I'll have to wait. Maybe I can perfect the idea until then. I'm sure this takes way more practice then I think. After all, I'm kind of a perfectionist. But I do love to plan a party.

I saw this on Design Sponge yesterday and thought it was a great idea. It's a catchall shelf for when you come in the door and need to place your keys, phone, mail etc. And of course it you look further it is a magazine holder from Ikea that sells for 4.99. I thought the idea was pretty smart and clever so I thought I'd share especially if you haven't seen the idea before. For how to instuctions off design sponge click here.

The ideas are endless as far as decorating and you could even use more for different shelves. Will I ever make it? I don't know...I might just buy a shelf.

I don't sew and don't have a sewing kit. I sometimes do keep the cheap little ones that you get at a hotel until they somehow get bent and the little cardboard sleeve will no longer close.... and then....my memories of that hotel no longer exist. I saw the following on Martha Stewart and thought it was clever and cute.

FYI - By using a mason jar the top of the lid can flip and the pins would be suspending upside down within the jar. Just make too puffy tops and voile.......a sewing kit. And it's kinda cute.

I love the decorative Glass films that they have now. They are kinda like wallpaper for glass to either add interest or give you privacy. I have some windows in my house that let in the light but I truly don't like the way people can see me if they are standing in that one location looking in. The windows are in my stairway so it's not that big of deal but at night or daytime when I'm running downstairs to get something and I could be a little under dressed I don't want to worry about who sees me and in what.

The Glass film that goes on windows works great. I even am thinking about putting something on my shower as well. There are so many designs but I truly am a simple gal and just like the frosted glass look. At Barnes and Noble the other night I ran across this book. It's Amy Butler's new book called Little Stitches for little ones and it is 100% absolutely adorable. In fact, it was so adorable it made me feel bad because I don't sew in any sense of the word. Her materials are indeed what make half the things so dang cute but she also has some great patterns for everyday things. Check it out the next time you're at a bookstore or just make the purchase online. If you sew and have skill and talent ta'boot then it's definitely worth a gander.

I love do it yourself projects. I saw this and instantly wanted to make a small footstool or ottoman. I found all the belts at a local thrift shop for under ten bucks and looked for a stool or some kind. Didn't find what I was looking for so the project is on hold. It didn't have much instructions to the projects but I'm sure it's not that hard (famous last words I'm sure).

I saw stool on ReadyMade.com. Their instructions were as follows.

Replace a worn-out seat cushion with sturdy—and beautiful—leather belts. Weave together the straps across the top of the frame, pull taut, and buckle each one underneath (if any of the belts are too long to stay tight, use an awl or utility knife to make extra holes). Trim off any excess leather, and take a load off.

I saw this cute family tree design on a website call Family Summerbelle. It's an English site which sells the design but you know me....I'm in the little bird in the top of the tree going cheap cheap cheap. The design is perfect for kids decor. Now I just have to see if I have that many relatives who will let me have their picture.

I love design and it is one of the things I'm passionate about. Though I've ousted all crafts from my life, when it comes to furniture I'll take weeks refinishing something. I guess I think furniture is beautiful. I found this article on the Internet and thought I'd share. It is a way to decoupage furniture with material to completely transform its look. I'm sure you could also use designer paper as well. What a great concept and any material can tie into your current decor. Definitely a fun way to spruce up a room...especially a child's room for a very inexpensive designer look. My next do it yourself project will be......let the garage sale-ing begin. (to hunt for the perfect piece)
